Folder view not loading on iOS
#1
hello, since quite some time, on my iPad and iPhone the NAS folder view loads very slowly, and since a few weeks, not at all anymore. On a (wired) PC, clicking the same NAS folder results in an instant listing of all folders without any delays. The library scan reports there are around 4000 folders.

I reinstalled Moode a few times and tried my Pi3B and 4B but all behave the same - all works nicely when searching the library, playing Spotify, Internet radio's, but clicking the NAS folder gives no response, and also it seems the browser becomes unresponsive and cant access anything anymore.

Tried different iOS browsers but all behave the same.

Any ideas? It looks to me its iOS specific. Wireless network is fast (reported 540Mbit/s by Moode) that cant be it I guess. It makes no difference when the iPhone is on another access point in the house.

My iPad (iPadOS 18.3.1) and iPhone SE (iOS 18.3.1) don't seem to be having any trouble with any part of moOde's webUI, but my NAS library is only 1/10 the size of yours. I rarely use the iPhone with moOde but I use the iPad every day.

Do you mean your NAS has 4000 directories aka folders at the top level? Mine is organized hierarchically with only a dozen-or-so top level directories (classical, jazz, world, opera, musical, test, etc.). Each, in turn, has many subdirectories. I don't know how much of a difference this would make. In any case, I rarely use the folder view.

The most noticeable delay I see is opening the moOde webUI on certain devices and opening the Album view of my library for the first time. In some cases, I can see a waterfall effect as all the album coverart loads. I haven't tried to characterize this behavior. After the initial load, I'm good. I assume this is because the device has cached the images.

Regards,
Kent

The network is a wired gigabit home network with 3 access points (1 per floor) in a wifi roaming setup, all OpenWRT based

Is the issue only happening with Folder view or also Tag/Album views?

Hi Tim the tag view is fast. Surprisingly the folder view is also fast this morning on the iPad… Any suggestions still welcome of course.

Very odd that sometimes it's fast and sometimes slow. That suggests something external to moOde software for example a network issue.

IIRC there's a feature of some WiFi OS's that does "smart" band hopping in an attempt to maintain the best signal quality to the client but in practice it doesn't work so well for time and rate sensitive data like audio.
